Advanced Technology
Arestin™
ARESTIN is an effective antibiotic treatment that comes in powder form. This powder is easily placed inside infected periodontal pockets just after the dental professional finishes the scaling and root planing (SRP) procedure.
Digital X-Rays
We feature digital radiography in our practice. Instead of the old films, we can take an x-ray picture of your teeth that goes immediately into the computer for viewing by both you and Dr. Sharma. Radiation is reduced as much as 90 percent compared to traditional x-rays, and so is waste that otherwise can pollute the environment.
Not all dental problems are visible to the naked eye, or can even be found with dental tools. Dental x-rays help us find such problems as:
- Cysts or abscesses
- Loss of bone
- Cavities and other problems between or inside teeth or below the gum line
- Problems with tooth or root positioning
- Abnormalities in development
This excellent technology helps us detect and treat problems early, saving you time, money, discomfort…and maybe even your teeth!
Sterilization & Cleanliness
Most people take cleanliness for granted... we don’t!
We maintain all our treatment rooms, supply storage, laboratory and even our lobby at the highest cleanliness levels possible.
The sterilization area is the heart of the office’s overall cleanliness. We store all of our instruments in sterilized wrapped cassettes and bags, which undergo a thorough sterilization process. Our procedural cassettes are first placed in our disinfecting instrument washer. When this part of the process is completed the cassettes and instruments within them are 99% disinfected. The cassettes are then wrapped and placed into one of our hospital grade autoclaves and fully sterilized.
Sedation Dentistry
Conscious Sedation is defined as a minimally depressed level of consciousness that retains the patient's ability to independently and continuously maintain an airway and respond appropriately to physical stimulation and verbal command.
Sedation Dentistry, sometimes called Relaxation Dentistry, refers to the way Dr. Sharma manages Pain and Anxiety during your dental treatments.
Unlike General Anesthesia where a patient is completely unconscious, asleep, and unable to respond, patients under Conscious Sedation, are able to respond to commands and breath on their own.
There are 2 primary ways that Sedation is administered at Dental Artistry of the Main Line:
Enteral Conscious Sedation – "Orally Administered Sedation", sometimes called "Sedation Dentistry" is administered by taking a pill. All body functions remain normal and the person is able to breathe on their own. The patient will often fall asleep. Some degree of amnesia is common. The disadvantage with this method of sedation, is that the level of sedation for each person is not predictable.
Inhalation Conscious Sedation - Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen Sedation also known as "laughing gas". This is the most frequently used sedation method used in dentistry. All bodily functions remain normal and the person is able to breathe on their own. The patient will often fall asleep and experience some degree of amnesia about what happened during their dental appointment. Inhalation Sedation has been used by dentists for many years.
